About
Thank you for visiting Puchi Boken Zukan. My name is Dylan. I’m an American living in Tokyo, and this is my blog. The title of this blog in Japanese translates roughly to “Illustrated Guidebook of Tiny Adventures”. I started this blog in 2024 as a creative outlet, to give myself a place to write, draw, and share things I enjoy. Some subjects I intend to cover are retro and obscure video games, Japanese stationery, and studying the Japanese language. I hope some of the experiences I recount in this blog reach someone and prove useful to them or spark their interest the way these topics sparked my interest.

On Romanization
Many Japanese words and phrases are featured throughout this blog. Japanese romanization (the process of writing foreign words using the English alphabet) is a complex topic, and various systems exist to tackle it. (See the Romanization of Japanese page on Wikipedia for more information.) This blog for the most part will use the Revised Hepburn system, but for simplicity's sake I'm omitting the macron that should appear over certain double vowel sounds. For most English-speaking readers this distinction would be largely meaningless, but for any readers who happen to be studying the Japanese language, note that some words, such as "boken", should in fact be written "bōken" (ぼうけん).
